Tips for the solo woman traveler in India:

  •  Dresses: Try to dress up appropriately in modest clothing. Wear dresses which cover you up modestly and also keep you protected from the vagaries of the climate. Especially, if you want to go to some temples or mosques, they will have some kind of dress code which you might have to follow, for entering.
  •  Book in decent hotels in good localities. Don’t go for very cheap hotels which might be located in seedy locations.
  • Carry a disinfectant and a pack of tissues with you. And, while booking the taxis, get the booking done by the hotel itself. Or, use the hotel cabs so that you are assured of safety. Not all the drivers are bad and some are actually quite good and respect their passengers.
  •  Research well about the place before you go and visit any place. Check out the reviews and see what the other fellow travelers have to say about it. It would be good to get all your doubts cleared before you go to any place.

  •  You can look out for the women only guided tours where you will get to interact with other women and   will feel quite safe too, in their company.
  •  And, if you are interested in the health, yoga, spirituality etc, then you can check out Rishikesh. Here, you will also get to try the water rafting.
  •  Women love to shop and if you are a solo woman traveler in India, you would be attracted towards the markets. Just keep in mind that you should haggle a lot with the street vendors. They will double or triple the prices if they see a foreigner.
  •  Don’t venture out alone during the nights, unless you know the place really well.
Have a safe and happy trip and just be careful.
